If
there is no WPAC chapter where you live, starting a new chapter really isn't
very difficult. The state WPAC office will give you lots of help!
Here's
all you need to do:
I)
Write to WPAC or call (916) 972-9443 and indicate your interest.
2) After your initial contact with the state office you'll be asked to find a
place for an organizational meeting. (Public libraries are good bets; also
meeting rooms at banks, recreation rooms at mobile home parks or apartment
complexes.) Most organizational meetings are held on Saturday afternoons.
3) Send WPAC the names and addresses of the newspapers which serve your area.
That's
all - except, of course, for telling your friends who are also widowed people
about the meeting and urging them to attend.
WPAC
state officers will notify the news media in your area about the meeting and
will send a team of representatives from existing chapters to conduct the
meeting and answer questions.
After
the meeting, state board members will work with your group, furnishing bylaws,
membership applications and all the other materials you will need to get your
chapter off the ground. And once your group has 30 members, state
representatives will be there to install your chapter officers and present your
group with an official WPAC charter.
Bringing
WPAC to your community may very well be the best thing you have ever done - for
yourself, your community and dozens of people you have yet
to meet!
